Friendship Stacks

10.15.2012 / Post a comment

Inspired by our childhood, friendship bracelets are revitalizing the “arm parties” trend. These new versions of friendship bracelets are made not just of woven bands, but include crystal embellishments, studs or spikes as well. Having them stacked or paired with gold chains and a boyfriend watch is the key.

You can now relive the fun of yesteryears with Blee Inara and Ettika!

Gaga Fashioning Singapore

07.13.2012 / 1 Comment

It has been awhile since I last blogged. I have been so busy flying around for work and events, I didn’t even have the time to take a breather! Before I left Singapore however, I attended a few Audi Fashion Festival shows and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball concert. All of which I really enjoyed!

Audi Fashion Festival 2012:

My favorite from this year’s AFF is the opening show, Mugler A/W 2012. Although it started late, the wait was well worth it. The collection features sexy body-con pieces with avant-garde elements – which come mainly in the form of bold, exaggerated shoulders. I can see why Lady Gaga is a fan of Mugler and its creative director, Nicola Formichetti, just from this collection. The show definitely opened up Singapore’s biggest fashion event of the year with a ‘wow’ factor.

Lady Gaga Born This Way Ball Concert:

Lady Gaga arrived in Singapore about a week after the end of Audi Fashion Festival for her Born This Way Ball concert. I see it as an extension of the fashion fever in Singapore because for me, Lady Gaga’s concert is as much for the fashion as it is for the music and performance.

Love this outfit!

Another version of the infamous meat dress first created by the aforementioned Nicola Formichetti.

I am sure that all her little monsters (including me) were never bored for a minute and thoroughly entertained in more ways than one.

Gaga for Gaga! That is how I would describe the few short exciting weeks before I left Singapore, what with Lady Gaga and her stylist, Nicola Formichetti arriving one after another. I am truly glad that Singapore is turning out to be an exciting and vibrant city with its ever-increasing line-up of events. Till next time then!

Scuba

05.31.2012 / Post a comment

With anticipation building for the 2012 London Olympics, fashion trends inspired by sports have been spotted since early this year. You may think that athletic fashion means hoodies and sweat pants, but it does not stop at that. This Olympic year, being sporty means oozing sex appeal as well, as designers look to water sports for inspiration. Scuba diving in particular, seems to be a strong influence this Spring/Summer.

Key elements of the Scuba trend: Sleek / Body Con / Bright Colors / Color Blocks / Mesh / Cut Outs / Exposed Zippers

Not only can the Scuba trend be seen on runways…

…they are all over the streets as well!

Dive into the Scuba trend with Boulee at SOCIAL!

As Wendy Elsmore, celebrity stylist said: “Fashion is having a fitness moment.” We definitely agree.

Charlotte Olympia is TERRIFIC

05.16.2012 / 1 Comment

I was back in the States a couple months back when I noticed that a London-based luxury accessories brand, Charlotte Olympia, seemed to have popped up everywhere. Their shoes caught my eye because they exude an old-fashion glamour and have this cute little spider web logo on the underside of the sole.

And as fate would have it, I received this when I came back to Singapore:

An invitation to a Charlotte Olympia event by On Pedder. It was as if the brand wanted to lure me in further knowing that it had already caught my attention overseas. Haha!

So I headed down to this ‘Hollywood Soiree’ with a friend on the day.

The first thing I noticed was this huge ‘spider web’ with Charlotte Olympia shoes hanging off it at the store’s window display. I absolutely love how the brand based their embroidered spider web logo on the children’s book, Charlotte’s Web. So unique and whimsical.

As for the event itself, the turnout was crazy!

It was so crowded! But of course, who would have expected less from a brand worn by Hollywood style icons such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Olivia Palermo and Rachel Bilson among others?

As we walked around the store shopping, enjoying champagne and hors d’oeuvres, I saw Charlotte Olympia Dellal, the designer, looking gorgeous in a glamorous evening gown with silver glitter. Very Hollywood!

I also saw Charlotte Olympia shoes all over the floor. I am certain that almost everyone there was trying at least a pair on!

My friend and I wanted to try on a few pairs as well but they were out of our usual sizes. We still tried them on anyway, hoping that the closest sizes would somehow fit us (not that lucky though). The above pair of denim platform sandal is one of their most popular styles.

As I turned away disappointed, I spotted this amazing accessory:

The Pandora Plexiglas Clutch! This clear clutch has a spider clasp and comes with 3 interchangeable pouches. It was love at first sight and I knew then that I must bring one home with me. Good thing the store still had this in stock.

Before I leave (happily with my purchase), I had wanted to go up and talk to Charlotte Olympia Dellal but did not get a chance to, as she was preoccupied and I had to rush off for my dinner date. All in all, Charlotte Olympia is ‘TERRIFIC’, just like Charlotte made Wilbur out to be in the Charlotte’s Web. I will definitely return for more (shoes)!

P.S. My apologies for the blurry images, I think I was too distracted shopping to take good pictures!

Coachella 2012

05.10.2012 / 1 Comment

Held annually in Indio, California, Coachella is one of America’s biggest music and arts festivals. Boasting its first 2-weekend format, Coachella 2012 was bigger than ever with over 160,000 attendees and 150 live acts, selling out every day.

With the festival being held so close to Los Angeles, it is no wonder that Hollywood stars flock there every year to party among revellers from all over the world. Good for us, as we get a chance to spot budding trends from trendsetters themselves, especially high profile ones!

Here are some looks sported by celebrities at Coachella 2012:

Flower Power at Coachella channels Spring with a hippie vibe.

Coachella is more fun with Graphic Tees!

(Pssst…we will be bringing you the top that Mischa is wearing come Fall!)

Ultra-short Shorts are perfect for the Coachella weather.

A spin on the retro look at Coachella with very modern Bralets!

Down-to-earth Hippie styles are always popular at Coachella!

(Paris Hilton is wearing a Joomi Lim necklace above, and we have a similar Tribe Festival Crystal & Fringe Necklace from the same designer!)

It is no surprise seeing Animal Prints appearing at Coachella.

With the music, parties, and most of all fashion, there is only one thing to say: We love Coachella!

P.S. Our favorite part other than the extensive show of fashion: Tupac being ‘resurrected’ at the festival to perform alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg! Amazing!!!

Say Hello to Japan

04.23.2012 / 2 Comments

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate SOCIAL on their opening! May the brand bring the region’s fashion scene to the next level! (And YAY to more shopping for us!)

I visited Tokyo awhile back, and dropped by one of my favorite stores in the US – Opening Ceremony.

Opening Ceremony is famous for their highly-curated collection featuring both emerging and established American designers as well as designers from abroad. This was my first time in Opening Ceremony Tokyo, and I have to say that I am really impressed! Located in the famous Shibuya district, it is a massive 8-level department store.

The Tokyo store is very much like its Los Angeles counterpart, where the idea is to build a ‘mini mall’ with different concepts showcased in different ‘rooms’. However, this Tokyo store is nothing mini and different concepts are showcased on different levels instead of ‘rooms’. Opening Ceremony Tokyo is definitely a bigger version of Opening Ceremony Los Angeles. But I still love how the Los Angeles location is the former dance studio space of Charlie Chaplin. Such a nice touch!

With brands like T by Alexander Wang, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, and not to mention the many collaborations they have with celebrities and labels, I enjoyed myself thoroughly in the store.

Here are some other random photos I took during my trip:

Mostly food, I know! YUM!

I miss Tokyo! Can’t wait till the next time I’m back!

Celeb’s Favorite Brands – Now in Singapore

04.23.2012 / Post a comment

We are super excited! Hollywood celebrities’ favorite brands are now available in Singapore!

The common misconception is that celebrities only use and wear expensive luxury brands’ items, but one could not be more wrong. Like the rest of us ‘commoners’, they like to mix and match: Luxury with high street, high street with vintage finds, and vintage finds with new up-and-coming designers’ designs etc. It is all about creating their personal style and style is priceless.

Fashion trends are often brought about by celebrities, so what better way to keep up with the latest trends than keeping up with us? Check out our SHOP section now, and stay with us for more!

Skirts – Sheer & Mullet

04.22.2012 / Post a comment

Sheer and Mullet – gaining popularity since last Spring/Summer, these two skirt trends continue to win hearts this year. The maxi versions still reign, but some designers, like Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu, featured updated versions for Spring 2012 where the hemlines are higher than last year’s. Regardless of the lengths however, sheer and mullet skirts are the perfect spring to summer transitional pieces that can either be dressed up for the red carpet or down for the streets.

Fashion bloggers and celebrities seem to be taken by the trend, and Julie, our model for Spring/Summer 2012 campaign, looks stunning in our Parker mullet dress as well.

We absolutely love how both skirts look modest yet sexy!

Print & Pattern

01.17.2012 / 1 Comment

Every year as we prepare for Spring’s arrival, we get ready to welcome bright prints and patterns into our fashion lives. For Spring/Summer 2012, they are back bolder then ever, as solid color-blocked separates take a backseat to pattern-on-pattern ensembles.

1. Nature

Realistic photo prints of nature / Black and white or full-color / Photo collages

 2. Digitized Florals

Hyper-saturated florals / Futuristic space-age garden / Complex collage effects

 3. Art

Art movements inspired / Paint strokes and splatter / Van Gogh style

 4. Classic Scarf

Classic ‘status scarf’ prints / Motifs and bright tropicals / Contrast border designs

IT Girl: Rooney Mara

01.17.2012 / 1 Comment

The latest “It” Girl in Hollywood and fashion is no doubt Rooney Mara, the actress who stars as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The transformation she went through for her on-screen character seems to have rubbed off on her off-screen, usually feminine self as she dresses like a rebel post-Lisbeth.

Rooney Mara wore designers like Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Prabal Gurung, Rodarte and many others for her movie premieres and events such as the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. Cutout details and a palette of neutrals and black are her trademarks. We love her distinct feminine rebel ensembles that incorporate both soft and severe elements. This look is set to continue into Spring 2012 as designers such as Anthony Vaccarello featured similar looks in their collection.
