Gaga Fashioning Singapore

07.13.2012 / 1 Comment

It has been awhile since I last blogged. I have been so busy flying around for work and events, I didn’t even have the time to take a breather! Before I left Singapore however, I attended a few Audi Fashion Festival shows and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball concert. All of which I really enjoyed!

Audi Fashion Festival 2012:

My favorite from this year’s AFF is the opening show, Mugler A/W 2012. Although it started late, the wait was well worth it. The collection features sexy body-con pieces with avant-garde elements – which come mainly in the form of bold, exaggerated shoulders. I can see why Lady Gaga is a fan of Mugler and its creative director, Nicola Formichetti, just from this collection. The show definitely opened up Singapore’s biggest fashion event of the year with a ‘wow’ factor.

Lady Gaga Born This Way Ball Concert:

Lady Gaga arrived in Singapore about a week after the end of Audi Fashion Festival for her Born This Way Ball concert. I see it as an extension of the fashion fever in Singapore because for me, Lady Gaga’s concert is as much for the fashion as it is for the music and performance.

Love this outfit!

Another version of the infamous meat dress first created by the aforementioned Nicola Formichetti.

I am sure that all her little monsters (including me) were never bored for a minute and thoroughly entertained in more ways than one.

Gaga for Gaga! That is how I would describe the few short exciting weeks before I left Singapore, what with Lady Gaga and her stylist, Nicola Formichetti arriving one after another. I am truly glad that Singapore is turning out to be an exciting and vibrant city with its ever-increasing line-up of events. Till next time then!

Charlotte Olympia is TERRIFIC

05.16.2012 / 1 Comment

I was back in the States a couple months back when I noticed that a London-based luxury accessories brand, Charlotte Olympia, seemed to have popped up everywhere. Their shoes caught my eye because they exude an old-fashion glamour and have this cute little spider web logo on the underside of the sole.

And as fate would have it, I received this when I came back to Singapore:

An invitation to a Charlotte Olympia event by On Pedder. It was as if the brand wanted to lure me in further knowing that it had already caught my attention overseas. Haha!

So I headed down to this ‘Hollywood Soiree’ with a friend on the day.

The first thing I noticed was this huge ‘spider web’ with Charlotte Olympia shoes hanging off it at the store’s window display. I absolutely love how the brand based their embroidered spider web logo on the children’s book, Charlotte’s Web. So unique and whimsical.

As for the event itself, the turnout was crazy!

It was so crowded! But of course, who would have expected less from a brand worn by Hollywood style icons such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Olivia Palermo and Rachel Bilson among others?

As we walked around the store shopping, enjoying champagne and hors d’oeuvres, I saw Charlotte Olympia Dellal, the designer, looking gorgeous in a glamorous evening gown with silver glitter. Very Hollywood!

I also saw Charlotte Olympia shoes all over the floor. I am certain that almost everyone there was trying at least a pair on!

My friend and I wanted to try on a few pairs as well but they were out of our usual sizes. We still tried them on anyway, hoping that the closest sizes would somehow fit us (not that lucky though). The above pair of denim platform sandal is one of their most popular styles.

As I turned away disappointed, I spotted this amazing accessory:

The Pandora Plexiglas Clutch! This clear clutch has a spider clasp and comes with 3 interchangeable pouches. It was love at first sight and I knew then that I must bring one home with me. Good thing the store still had this in stock.

Before I leave (happily with my purchase), I had wanted to go up and talk to Charlotte Olympia Dellal but did not get a chance to, as she was preoccupied and I had to rush off for my dinner date. All in all, Charlotte Olympia is ‘TERRIFIC’, just like Charlotte made Wilbur out to be in the Charlotte’s Web. I will definitely return for more (shoes)!

P.S. My apologies for the blurry images, I think I was too distracted shopping to take good pictures!

Say Hello to Japan

04.23.2012 / 2 Comments

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate SOCIAL on their opening! May the brand bring the region’s fashion scene to the next level! (And YAY to more shopping for us!)

I visited Tokyo awhile back, and dropped by one of my favorite stores in the US – Opening Ceremony.

Opening Ceremony is famous for their highly-curated collection featuring both emerging and established American designers as well as designers from abroad. This was my first time in Opening Ceremony Tokyo, and I have to say that I am really impressed! Located in the famous Shibuya district, it is a massive 8-level department store.

The Tokyo store is very much like its Los Angeles counterpart, where the idea is to build a ‘mini mall’ with different concepts showcased in different ‘rooms’. However, this Tokyo store is nothing mini and different concepts are showcased on different levels instead of ‘rooms’. Opening Ceremony Tokyo is definitely a bigger version of Opening Ceremony Los Angeles. But I still love how the Los Angeles location is the former dance studio space of Charlie Chaplin. Such a nice touch!

With brands like T by Alexander Wang, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, and not to mention the many collaborations they have with celebrities and labels, I enjoyed myself thoroughly in the store.

Here are some other random photos I took during my trip:

Mostly food, I know! YUM!

I miss Tokyo! Can’t wait till the next time I’m back!
